Inspiration
The color black has always captured my attention in design, fashion and nature. This was an exercise in frolicking color over the intensely formal black backdrop.
Color
The iridescent nature of this piece comes from layers of the black coming through the thin layers of color on top. Fresh green, deep blue and a lime-yellow acrylic mix, as well as a bit of white, show above the black sub layer.
Technique
This wet on wet technique worked well with water reducing the thickness of the initial black acrylic layer as well as all the paints added on top. The final manipulation, with palette knife and color adds, comes from what I see in the piece as it forms. I tip and slide the paints until I find the perfect compositional balance.
