Artist’s notes
Inspiration
There is something about finding a vintage item or well used piece that made me want to scuff the background for this piece on a wet surface (controlled chaos). I love things that look 100’s of years old, to me this piece feels like it could be thousands of years old.
Color
Black and white are contrast’s dream when working with fluid paints. There is no mistaking the intentional contrast. This piece is one of a series in intentional bold neutrals.
Technique
Constant experimentation with water based and oil based products prompted me to use silicone in the white paint and latex additive Floetrol in both black and white. There is a forever love-hate relationship by various artists towards both products rather than using plain water, but I find the experimentation quite intriguing. Watching the huge pocket cells form in the video below, you should see why its great to experiment with. A butane torch brings forth all kinds of interesting textures and bubbles.
Acrylic with silicone on gallery wrap canvas. No framing required as edges are painted. 20” x 20” x 1.5”
